Altera client successes in 2023: A look at our top stories
As we set our sights on Altera Digital Health’s continued efforts to support and enhance our healthcare partners in 2024, we want to take a moment to highlight some of the achievements of our clients in 2023. Without further delay, let’s dive in!
Achieving interoperability by connecting EHR systems and harmonizing data: The dbMotion Solution at PIH Health
In 2023, the primary goal of PIH Health was to facilitate the seamless sharing and aggregating of patient data from different sources, enabling healthcare providers to access a comprehensive view of a patient’s longitudinal record. Our dbMotion™ Solution integrates and harmonizes data from multiple systems and connects to the Carequality network, which helps clinicians to make better informed decisions, improve care coordination and enhance patient outcomes.
After using the same medication barcoding system since 2006, leaders at Washington Health System decided to upgrade to Sunrise™ Knowledge-Based Medication Administration (Sunrise KBMA). The comprehensive rollout included all inpatient areas, such as medical/surgical, behavioral health, critical care, obstetrics inpatient and respiratory care.
UAB Huntsville was facing inefficiencies due to an outdated paper-based inpatient charge capture system, leading to lost revenue. Leadership recognized an opportunity to improve by tapping into the Service List feature in TouchWorks® EHR, but they needed help to make it possible. With guidance and assistance from the Altera Managed Services team, the organization transformed its charge capture process, resulting in a streamlined, completely digital workflow.
Springhill Medical Center implemented Sunrise™ Financial Manager as an early adopter, collaborating closely with developers to customize features for efficient revenue cycle management. The solution’s automation and streamlined workflows improved error correction and provided accurate data for informed operational decisions. The seamless flow of operations and easy access to patient information contributed to Springhill’s success, enabling them to maintain stable cash flow even during COVID-19.
WhidbeyHealth Medical Center is a Critical Access Hospital serving the residents of Whidbey Island in Washington state. Leaders realized the organization was not being reimbursed fully for services rendered in its ED due to differences in how providers were coding. The organization turned to Ventus Intelligent Coding to make its coding processes simpler and more consistent—which, in turn, increased revenue.
Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust consists of three hospitals that provide healthcare services to around 590,000 patients per year. Worcestershire went live on the Sunrise™ EPR suite in March 2023 across 56 inpatient wards. This digital transformation caters to the trusts’ needs without requiring national funding and brought about significant enhancements in clinical workflows, elevating patient safety standards at the trust.
Columbus Community Hospital (CCH), a nonprofit, acute-care medical facility in Columbus Nebraska, went live with Paragon® in 2010, with the intention to enhance patient care and user experience. This sparked a tight-knit and mutually beneficial relationship between CCH and Altera Digital Health.
The hospital has a dedicated Altera Client Development Executive and Client Success Manager to help provide consistency. Stacy Westfall, Information Systems Director at CCH, explains, “They are willing to listen and fix any sinkholes we deal with. It is vital to us that they are in the know about what is going on. We give them our input and feel like we are listened.”
When Coastal Carolina Healthcare (CCHC) upgraded to the previous version of TouchWorks EHR during the COVID-19 crisis, preparing staff and providers virtually was challenging. However, this time, preparations were smoother as after-hour meetings and CCHC super-users ensured understanding of the upgrade and explored new features in the test environment early on. They also actively sought provider feedback to meet staff needs, especially for charge-entry changes in version 22.1.
Each site upgraded to TouchWorks EHR 22.1 smoothly and successfully in April 2023. The CCHC team attributes a large part of the organization’s success to consistent communication and support from Altera Digital Health
