Healthcare innovation through interoperability: How we see what’s next
As we collectively look toward the future of healthcare, across every facet, we see an evolution that is showing no sign of slowing. And that’s a good thing.
But with these changes comes a need to respond accordingly, and, maybe as important, we need the ability to harness data effectively. At Altera Digital Health, our commitment to interoperability has enabled us to aggregate and curate data from hundreds of disparate source systems, delivering clean, trusted information that empowers enterprise analytics, AI and informed decision-making. This proven track record ensures that healthcare organizations can rely on a unified data foundation to drive better outcomes.
But, looking ahead, as always, here are a few key interoperability trends that should stay front and center as we climb higher, together.
At Altera Digital Health, our commitment to interoperability has enabled us to aggregate and curate data from hundreds of disparate source systems, delivering clean, trusted information that empowers enterprise analytics, AI and informed decision-making.
What the industry needs
At the point of care, investments to align organizational infrastructure with emerging industry standards such as SMART on FHIR and FHIRcast are a must. By doing so, seamless integration and real-time data exchange is made possible, and in turn, we can see cleaner clinical workflows, improved patient outcomes and lower cost of care. After all, at the heart of interoperability is quite literally the patient and their experience.
Many stakeholders and vendors are focusing on how Artificial Intelligence (AI) across platforms can bring the human side of healthcare even closer for users. Specifically, AI-powered search capabilities that streamlines access to information, which is key for better, more comprehensive care, but also integral in improving the patient experience. Adopting AI-driven terminology mapping, too, will simplify the sometimes-arduous task of connecting new data sources. To that end, using Natural Language Processing (NLP) can effectively turn unstructured data into discrete, actionable insights—unlocking the full potential of clinical narratives and documentation. These considerations will drive better care delivery while also helping to facilitate the right venue of care for the patient. These tools can truly transform how organizations deliver care.

Bringing it all together
As 2025 crests into 2026, we’re excited to launch CareInTelligence, a powerful solution designed to make data truly actionable. We see the challenges many organizations face when it comes to managing the avalanche of data, so we built upon our robust data aggregation capabilities to drive better cohesion across the industry, regardless of system of record. CareInTelligence delivers high-integrity insights to help healthcare organizations reduce costs, improve care quality and optimize reimbursement. It’s a major step forward in turning data into a strategic asset and dialing into the holistic goals of any healthcare organization.
We’re also enhancing care coordination through the seamless integration of dbMotion with Altera Care Director. This integration enables Care Coordinators to seamlessly populate care plans for high-acuity patients, enabling proactive outpatient management and reducing the burden on inpatient services.
Together, true interoperability can be a reality, and with AI, data analytics can be taken to the next level and beyond.
