Nearly 700 new features and enhancements to drive financial and clinical improvements

Sunrise 25.1 also represents a significant uplift in clinical workflow satisfaction and efficiency for clients. Within Sunrise™ Ambulatory Care, enhanced patient management features include a unified list for appointments and walk-ins, easy location viewing, enhanced visual cues and clinical assignments, and new mini-views that enable users to toggle between patients with a single click. On the acute side, users can enter, view and maintain orders at the patient level and enter queries without exact search term requirements. Additionally, Sunrise™ Mobile’s new, intuitive icons and modernized user interface enable clinicians to use the system more seamlessly so they can focus more on patient care.

Australia, May 2025 – Altera Digital Health is proud to announce the successful activation of its integrated operating theatre system at Latrobe Regional Health (LRH), one of the hospital members of Gippsland Health Alliance (GHA). GHA has been leveraging Sunrise as its enterprise-wide electronic health record (EHR) platform, utilising Microsoft Azure to enhance interoperability, security, and scalability across its network.
As part of its ongoing digital transformation, GHA has now implemented an anaesthesia information management system (AIMS) platform called Provation® iPro to integrate with Sunrise at LRH. This milestone deployment of Sunrise Surgical Care and Provation iPro AIMS streamlines theatre management and clinical documentation, enabling efficient surgical scheduling and ensuring a seamless patient experience with a single clinical record from pre-admission to discharge.
A Streamlined Approach to Theatre Management
The successful deployment of Sunrise Surgical Care at LRH marks the first implementation of this advanced surgical management solution in Australia. Fully integrated with Sunrise EHR, Sunrise Surgical Care enhances efficiency by enabling real-time tracking of theatre utilisation, optimised scheduling, and improved resource allocation. This implementation reinforces LRH’s commitment to delivering high-quality, patient-centric care by reducing administrative burdens and ensuring timely access to critical surgical data.
Sunrise Surgical Care also plays a key role in supporting a continuous, single patient record from perioperative care to discharge. By providing clinicians with a comprehensive view of each patient’s surgical journey, the system strengthens communication between healthcare providers and enhances patient safety and outcomes.
Additionally, the deployment of the Provation iPro AIMS platform spans 12 operating theatres and 18 Post-Anaesthetic Care Unit (PACU) beds at LRH. Designed by practicing anaesthetists, Provation iPro streamlines electronic anaesthesia documentation throughout the entire perioperative encounter, standardises the collection of quality measures, and even streamlines billing processes.
Provation iPro’s integration with Sunrise Surgical Care creates a seamless user experience, eliminating manual, redundant data entry. With this technology, Pre-Admissions clinics have transitioned from paper to digital records, populating data from Pre-Admission assessments into the day-of-surgery record, streamlining the theatre admission process.
Provation iPro’s autovitals feature wirelessly streams patient vitals from anaesthesia monitor machines directly into the clinical record. With this, alongside a number of other thoughtful features, including picture-documentation, pre-filled procedure templates, and hard-stops, providers can refocus their attention on the patient while simultaneously producing a more complete, compliant, legible anaesthesia record.
Unlike traditional paper systems, these digital records can now be accessed and viewed by multiple clinicians across multiple locations simultaneously, enhancing collaboration and ensuring all relevant information is available in real time.
To keep families informed, LRH has introduced a “Patient Procedure Tracker” board in waiting areas, providing real-time updates on which stage of the theatre journey their loved one is in — whether they are in pre-op, surgery, or recovery. This helps reduce uncertainty and minimises the need for calls to reception.

South Australia Health and Altera Digital Health are delighted that South Australia is the first state in Australia to activate a statewide EMR and PAS across all hospitals and health services in both metropolitan and rural areas. The patient electronic medical record used in South Australia is a state-based system called Sunrise EMR & PAS (Sunrise EMR), which integrates electronic medical records (EMR) and patient administration systems (PAS) into a unified platform. This system ensures that clinicians across the state have real-time access to patient data, promoting coordinated, patient-centered care throughout South Australia’s public healthcare network.
The Sunrise EMR platform is now live across almost 100 sites throughout South Australia, ensuring that patients’ medical histories, treatment plans, and clinical data are accessible across the state’s public health system. St. Luke’s Medical Center is recognised as the leading healthcare institution in the Philippines and one of the most advanced hospitals in the world. The private hospital has more than 1,000 beds and manages over 48,000 admissions and 2.7 million outpatient consultations annually. Adelaide, October 2024 – Altera Digital Health is pleased to announce the successful go-live of its advanced electronic chemotherapy prescribing solution, iQemo, at the Royal Adelaide Hospital (RAH), Central Adelaide Local Health Network. This milestone marks a significant expansion of the state-wide rollout of SA Health’s Enterprise Chemotherapy Prescribing System (ECPS), designed to enhance cancer treatment for both adults and children across South Australia.
The RAH is South Australia’s flagship hospital, providing a comprehensive range of the most complex clinical care to an estimated 85,000 inpatients and 400,000 outpatients each year. The RAH is one of Australia’s most technologically advanced healthcare facilities, integrating the latest innovations across health, education and research to deliver high-quality care. The implementation of iQemo is an example of technological advancement and lastest innovation in cancer care delivery.
The ECPS project supports the implementation of consistent and standardised systemic cancer therapy processes, improving cancer patient safety and outcomes. ECPS has been initiated to achieve the vision of safe and timely provision of high-quality, evidence-based cancer care to the South Australian population. Following the go-live at the Royal Adelaide Hospital, there are more than 450 clinicians and healthcare administrators manage over 1,000 patients in iQemo, including those who are chemotherapy inpatients and attend the Cancer Day Centre on a daily basis.
In addition to the Royal Adelaide Hospital, iQemo has been successfully implemented at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Lyell McEwin Hospital, as well as throughout the regional local health networks. The rollout of these sites is being progressively implemented, with the goal of completing all 21 public hospital sites across metropolitan and regional South Australia by the end of 2025, to support patients requiring chemotherapy.
Altera Digital Health, formerly known as Allscripts, secured the competitive contract to deliver this pioneering electronic chemotherapy prescribing solution for SA Health in 2021. iQemo is a stand-alone, cloud-based system exclusively available through Altera Digital Health in Australia and New Zealand. It aims to improve patient safety by streamlining the prescribing of complex chemotherapy treatments through its intuitive user interface, allowing clinicians to focus more on patient care and less on administrative tasks.

MINDEF’s Sunrise EMR upgrades to Sunrise 22.1 and implements Altera Opal 22.1
Singapore, January 2024 – Altera Digital Health has completed a successful upgrade of Ministry of Defence’s (MINDEF) Sunrise™ EMR platform whilst also implementing Altera Opal to provide document management functionality. Both platforms are now running version 22.1, which offers an enhanced user experience and new features, and also represents the first upgrade to Sunrise in the Asia-Pacific region.
The award-winning, Sunrise-powered PACES 3 system has been deployed by the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) Medical Corps since 2016. It integrates with Singapore’s National Electronic Health Records system and enables soldiers to manage and book their own medical appointments, as well as access information on their medical history and previous interactions with health professionals, all of contributes to a greater sense of health ownership amongst members of MINDEF/SAF.
Sunrise Military provides core functionality for primary and acute care and many other key capabilities, including referral management, allied health, pharmacy and medical imaging, and patient portal. The solution also includes tools specifically designed to improve the delivery of healthcare for military organisations.
Altera Digital Health’s Todd Haebich, Executive Vice President, APAC, said that the upgrade to version 22.1 on both platforms was a job well done for the EMR team comprising Altera staff and SAF personnel.
“EMRs for military, by their very nature, are associated with the most stringent security requirements, and so an upgrade of this significance is testimony to the hard work and dedication of the team,” explained Mr. Haebich.

7 November 2023 – Altera Digital’s Health’s electronic chemotherapy prescribing solution has gone live at the Lyell McEwin Hospital in Adelaide as well as the Mount Gambier and Districts Health Service on South Australia’s Limestone Coast. The go-lives are the first in the state-wide rollout of SA Health’s Enterprise Chemotherapy Prescribing System (ECPS), which is being introduced to support the needs of both adults and children attending any of the 21 public hospital sites across metropolitan and country South Australia and who require chemotherapy treatment.
The Lyell McEwin Hospital (LMH) is a major tertiary hospital located in Adelaide, South Australia, that provides medical, surgical, diagnostic, emergency and support services to a population of more than 400,000 people living primarily in Adelaide’s north and north-eastern suburbs. The Mount Gambier Hospital is located 450 kilometres (280 mi) southeast of capital Adelaide and serves a population of nearly 30,000 people.
In 2021, Altera Digital Health (then known as Allscripts) won a competitive tender to deliver an electronic chemotherapy prescribing solution with SA Health.
iQemo is a stand-alone, cloud-based specialist chemotherapy prescribing solution exclusively available through Altera Digital Health in Australia and New Zealand. Designed to improve patient safety and accessible from virtually any device, iQemo simplifies the prescribing of complex treatments through its intuitive user interface, so users can spend more time with patients and less time writing prescriptions. It is a complete end-to-end solution that includes predefined regimens, prescribing, scheduling and dispensing, through to chemotherapy administration and reporting.
Altera Digital Health’s Todd Haebich, Executive Vice President, APAC, said that as a web-based solution, iQemo reduces risk in a clinical setting where even the smallest of human errors can have disastrous consequences.
“Clinicians at these two major hospitals are now realising the benefits of a tried and proven solution that greatly improves workflow efficiency and, most importantly, patient safety,” explained Mr. Haebich.
“These are the first two installations of iQemo in Australia and it is a significant milestone in the delivery of Oncology services in particular,” added Mr. Haebich. “iQemo is integrated with their existing EMR and it equates to an even better standard of patient care, and we look forward to introducing other sites across South Australia to this very capable technology.”
iQemo, will now be rolled out to the other SA Health hospitals and facilities that deliver cancer treatment services across South Australia.
The rollout of iQemo will now focus on regional hospitals and health centres across SA, with major sites such as the Royal Adelaide and Flinders hospitals scheduled for the first quarter of 2024. All major centres are expected to be using iQemo around the second quarter of 2024.

25 July 2023 – Altera Digital Health’s partner Provation’s award-winning Provation iPro anaesthesia solution has gone live at the Waikato and Thames hospitals of Te Whatu Ora – Health New Zealand. With the solution now live, anaesthesia staff are reaping the benefits of a cloud-based Perioperative Clinical Information Management Solution (PCIMS).
The intuitive and easy-to-use Provation iPro Anaesthesia Information Management Systems (AIMS) has been successfully implemented in several hospitals across Australia and Singapore. Clinicians rely on its exceptional capability to produce complete, compliant, legible anaesthesia records, ultimately enhancing patient safety and maximising clinical efficiency to optimise workflows. It is the first installation of its kind in New Zealand and is hosted on Microsoft Azure, which offers significant security and scalability benefits.
Altera Digital Health won the contract to implement Provation iPro at Te Whatu Ora Waikato in September 2021 with project implementation commencing in mid-2022. Waikato Hospital is the major regional hospital in Hamilton, whilst Thames Hospital is a smaller hospital 100 kilometres north of Hamilton. Altera Digital Health has delivered the Provation iPro Anaesthesia Information Management System (AIMS), including Provation iPro Pre-Admission Testing (PAT), IntraOp, Acute Pain Management (APM), Post Anaesthesia Care Unit (PACU) and Analytics at both sites, collectively supporting 25 operating theatres (including 37 PACU beds), a delivery suite and catheterisation lab and approximately 180 users.
Altera Digital Health Executive Vice President for APAC Todd Haebich said that in implementing a robust digital health system spanning the entire patient journey from theatre and PACU to pain management, the cloud-based solution was perfected by Waikato clinicians.
“One of the main benefits of Provation iPro is that it can be readily configured and tailored to address the requirements of perioperative services at whatever clinical setting it is required for,” explained Mr. Haebich.
“It is also easily integrated with Clinical Workstation, iPM/PAS and data and reporting systems.”
Te Whata Ora Waikato serves a population of more than 425,000, covering an area of more than 21,000 square kilometres.
Provation iPro AIMS went live at the Royal Adelaide Hospital in 2017 followed by the implementation of additional modules including iPro APM and PACU in mid-2018. The iPro PAT module went live at The Royal Adelaide Hospital in 2020, signalling the introduction of the full perioperative information management system.
“We are both proud and excited to have completed our first major installation in New Zealand and we trust that this will open new doors for us to leverage this, and other proven, world-class solutions in this country where we now have runs on the board,” added Mr. Haebich.

SINGAPORE – June 2023 – Altera Digital Health, formerly the Allscripts Hospitals and Large Physician Practices business segment and a global leader in healthcare IT, has announced that its Sunrise™ Oncology solution has gone live at National Cancer Centre Singapore (NCCS), a specialty centre under SingHealth, Singapore’s largest public healthcare group.
SingHealth, supported by the national HealthTech agency Integrated Health Information Systems (IHiS), will be using Sunrise Oncology to elevate its multi-disciplinary and integrated care approach for more than 30,000 healthcare professionals in its network of acute hospitals, national specialty centres, community hospitals and polyclinics, which serve almost half of Singapore’s healthcare needs.
As part of NCCS’ commitment to deliver high quality cancer care to patients in Singapore and the region, SingHealth started working on an extended e-chemotherapy project that encompasses the delivery of Sunrise Oncology as one component.
Sunrise Oncology is an oncology-specific EMR solution that provides clinicians the tools they need to support the complexities of cancer care. It provides decision support at the point of clinical prescribing and evidence-based treatment regimens with real-time analysis of efficacy, toxicities and outcomes.
The intention is to create a paperless electronic oncology workflow by consolidating the workflow for medical oncology across multiple SingHealth institutions, including NCCS, Singapore General Hospital (SGH), KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital, and satellite and outpatient cancer treatment centres at Sengkang General Hospital and Changi General Hospital. This brings together existing paper and electronic workflows into Sunrise to standardise and enhance the integration with patients’ electronic medical records. For example, a patient may receive their diagnosis and undergo their initial treatment at NCCS (or even as an inpatient at SGH), but subsequently choose to receive the remaining cancer treatment in a satellite centre closer to where they live for greater convenience. With Sunrise Oncology, doctors, nurses and pharmacists from across SingHealth institutions will have visibility of key patient information, including their prior treatment and any important notes (such as any adverse drug reactions).
“The implementation of Sunrise Oncology across SingHealth institutions provides a cluster-wide integrated oncology solution, which enables clinicians to access patient data more efficiently, improves patient safety and ensures seamless continuity of care for the patient,” said Associate Professor Lita Chew, Group Director, Allied Health, SingHealth and Head of Pharmacy Department, NCCS.
To meet growing healthcare needs, the new 24-storey NCCS building was officially opened in 2023 with increased capacity and expanded facilities dedicated to cancer care, rehabilitation, research and education.
As part of this expansion, Sunrise Oncology has been implemented in phases to standardise oncology workflows and streamline processes across all SingHealth institutions. This will support workflows for both solid tumours and blood cancers across oncology and haematology services — across institutions — and provide seamless integration with other Sunrise modules.

25 May 2023 – Altera Digital Health’s digital medical record, Altera Opal, has gone live at the Rockingham General Hospital, Murray District Hospital and nearby community health centres in Mandurah and Kwinana. All sites now have read/write access to the State-Wide Digital Medical Record powered by Altera Opal.
Rockingham General Hospital is approximately 50 kilometres south of Perth and has an emergency department and operating theatres, as well as medical, surgical and paediatric wards. Murray District Hospital is much smaller, offering inpatient medical services and palliative care to the people of Pinjarra and surrounding areas. The implementation of Altera Opal at these sites signals their transition from paper to digital medical records.
Altera Opal was originally known as BOSSnet, and as a digital medical record, is operational in more than 100 sites in Australia, whilst it is also deployed as a document management solution as part of the Sunrise™ Platform of Health in Australia and the United Kingdom. It is also currently being deployed in the US, Canada, Singapore and the Philippines. All development related to Altera Opal is managed and delivered by a dedicated team in Australia.
Todd Haebich, Executive Vice President APAC for Altera Digital Health, said that Altera Opal continues to prove its worth for organisations looking to transition from paper to digital medical records.

1 May 2023 – Altera Digital Health has promoted its Australia and New Zealand head Todd Haebich to Executive Vice President APAC following a sustained period of significant growth for the company. Mr. Haebich’s responsibilities now include Southeast Asia, a market he has extensive experience in, where he will be supported by Anna Grammare, General Manager, Singapore and Philippines.
Todd Haebich joined Altera Digital Health, then Allscripts, in 2015 as an Associate VP Strategic Accounts Australia and New Zealand before being promoted to General Manager in 2018. Since then, he has steered the company through the steady expansion of key client SA Health’s ambitious state-wide electronic medical record across the length and breadth of South Australia. SA Health is now one of Altera Digital Health’s largest global Sunrise™ clients using prime solutions including Sunrise PAS (Registration, Scheduling, SFM), Sunrise EMR, Patient Flow and Altera Opal. Last month, a budget of $31.1 million was confirmed by the South Australian government for the regional rollout of Sunrise which is expected to be completed by late 2024. SA Health are also implementing a state-wide Enterprise Chemotherapy Prescribing System with Altera Digital Health.
Mr. Haebich has also led Altera Digital Health through the opportunity. planning and delivery of a contemporary cloud-based EMR solution to the Gippsland Health Alliance beginning in late 2017 and concluding with the announcement of third and final phase going live in December last year. Expansion to New Zealand came in 2022 when Altera Digital Health announced it had won a contract to deliver the award-winning Provation® iPro anaesthesia solutions at the Waikato and Thames hospitals with the go-live expected in the first half of this year.
More recently, Altera Digital Health was awarded the contract to implement a health information exchange (HIE) for the Victoria Department of Health’s pathology reform program.
Marcus Perez, President of Altera Digital Health said that Mr. Haebich’s promotion was richly deserved given his accomplishments in a challenging and ever-evolving market:

Mr. Haebich is well placed to deliver on his new role in the Southeast Asia market having lived and worked in Singapore from 2008 to 2014 where he held senior positions with leading healthcare IT companies including Wolters Kluwer and Carestream Health.
