Why Sunrise EHR is the right fit
In 2018, SLMC conducted a thorough evaluation of three EHR systems. Sunrise, combined with supporting third-party applications, achieved the highest score across a rigorous set of criteria. These included:
- Compliance with clinical and operational requirements.
- Compatibility with SLMC’s existing and planned ancillary systems.
- Scalability to support future growth and clinical innovation.
- Flexibility to adapt to local workflows without compromising global best practices.
Following evaluation, the platform selected met SLMC’s immediate requirements and provided a foundation for long-term digital maturity.
Implementation milestones and go-live success
Sunrise was implemented across SLMC’s two major campuses:
- SLMC Global City (SLMC-GC) went live in April 2022.
- SLMC Quezon City (SLMC-QC) followed in April 2024.
The transition marked a major milestone in SLMC’s digital transformation. Despite the scale and complexity of the project, the go-lives were executed with minimal disruption to clinical services, thanks to strong collaboration between internal stakeholders and the Sunrise implementation team.
Transformational benefits for clinicians and the organization
Since go-live, SLMC has realized widespread benefits across its operations:
1. Improved clinical efficiency
- Clinicians now have real-time access to comprehensive patient records.
- Integration with medical devices enables automatic documentation of vital signs and clinical data, reducing manual entry and minimizing errors.
2. Enhanced medication safety
- Sunrise’s medication management modules include clinical decision support, helping prevent prescribing errors and promoting safer medication use across the organization.
- Sunrise is integrated with both in-house and third-party ancillary systems, such as the Laboratory Information System (LIS), Radiology Information System (RIS) and Cardiovascular Information System (CVIS).
- This enables seamless data transfer, improving turnaround times and clinical decision-making.
4. Support for accreditation and compliance
- EHR implementation has helped SLMC address key findings from its Joint Commission International Accreditation (JCIA) assessments, many of which were related to the risks of manual documentation processes.
At St. Luke’s Medical Center, we view digital transformation as a key enabler of better healthcare. The implementation of our EHR platform has allowed clinicians to collaborate more efficiently, streamline processes and keep patient-centered care at the forefront, while ensuring the secure management of health records.

Digitalization at scale: Quantitative results
One of the most significant achievements since the implementation has been the scale of digital transformation within clinical documentation. SLMC successfully transitioned:
- 291 clinicians’ notes
- 112 waivers and consent forms
- 136 diagnostic result documents
This represents a total of 539 clinical documents that were moved from paper to digital, significantly reducing paperwork and streamlining clinical workflows.
Building a future-proof platform
Through its EHR implementation, SLMC designed process flows aligned with best practices in global healthcare. The system’s embedded safeguards for patient safety, data governance and workflow optimization gave SLMC a strong foundation to:
- Evolve its digital health strategy.
- Adapt quickly to new regulatory and clinical demands.
- Ensure sustainable, long-term operational improvements.
A new standard in Philippine healthcare
SLMC’s digital health journey contributes to advancing healthcare technology adoption in the Philippines, demonstrating the role of electronic health records in supporting safer and more coordinated care.
- Data-driven decision-making: With reliable clinical data at their fingertips, leaders can implement operational improvements more confidently.
- Clinical excellence: Enhanced workflows and integrated care tools help clinicians provide more accurate, timely and coordinated treatment.
- Patient safety: Embedded safety checks and automated alerts reduce clinical risks and support better outcomes.
For SLMC, the adoption of an enterprise EHR is more than a technology project—it represents a strategic enabler for better care, better safety and better outcomes.
