7 July 2021 – Allscripts has announced a rebrand and relaunch of its BOSSnet Digital Health Record (DHR) to Allscripts Opal which is now available with a suite of new feature enhancements in the form of Allscripts Opal 21.2.

BOSSnet, initially developed as a blood ordering software system (BOSS) was the flagship DHR platform of Adelaide company Core Medical Solutions, which was acquired by Allscripts in 2016. As a digital health record, it is operational in over 100 sites in Australia whilst it is also deployed as a document management solution as part of the Sunrise™ platform of health in Australia and the United Kingdom. It is also currently being deployed in the US, Canada, Singapore and the Philippines but as General Manager for Allscripts Australia and New Zealand Todd Haebich explains, the company felt the time was right to rebadge BOSSnet and in doing so, renew its commitment to promote the software to a global market.

“From a branding perspective, our main objective is to ensure that it has a cohesive identity within the Allscripts portfolio – an easily recognisable name that is unambiguous across cultures whilst at the same time pays homage to Australia as the country of its origin.”

“Australian opals account for 95% of the world’s supply and are therefore synonymous with Australia. Likewise, this platform has undergone continuous development and digital maturation as part of the Allscripts stable and is now a polished product that can be introduced to hospitals and healthcare systems worldwide with renewed confidence,” added Mr. Haebich.

Allscripts Opal 21.2, to be released on June 30, will feature a suite of feature enhancements offering users an enhanced user experience, up-to-date platform support, improved maintainability as well as performance and security improvements. Features include:

  1. Scanning workflow enhancements – new capabilities to streamline batch and point-of care scanning workflows improving throughput and productivity of end-users. Release and approve tools have been integrated into the process to provide better visibility of completion of tasks throughout the process. Images can also be uploaded with ease directly into the solution.
  2. eForms functionality enhancements – facilitates the ease of documentation by presenting needed information from other areas of the chart within the clinical eForms and workflows, providing quick buttons to complete assessment and treatment plans, leading to a reduction in charting time.
  3. New Mobile App – leverages mobile device capabilities to easily upload multi-media files enabling users to “scan on the go”, completing document capture from any iOS device.

Other enhancements include a Watchlist support in DHR, which allows personal and public watchlists to be created and managed in Allscripts Opal DHR, bringing functionality currently available in Results Review to the DHR.

Allscripts Opal also offers Upgraded platform support in Windows 2019, SQL Server 2019, .NET Framework 4.8, TLS 1.2 Support and Chromium-based browsers improving reliability maintainability, security and performance.
