On the horizon: How AI is transforming healthcare workflows even more
As we know, Artificial Intelligence (AI) is no longer a distant concept in healthcare—it’s here, and it’s evolving rapidly. In my work with TouchWorks, we’re not just asking “What can AI do today?” We’re asking “Where is it going next?” The answer lies in innovations that go beyond time savings and efficiency. These advancements aim to improve patient engagement, reduce clinician burnout and break down barriers to care. Here are just a few ways AI is paving the path forward for better care delivery.
In my work with TouchWorks, we’re not just asking “What can AI do today?” We’re asking “Where is it going next?”
Smarter form authoring
Fifteen years ago, creating a single clinical form could take 40–80 hours. Today, AI can do it in five. Our AI-driven form builder enables clinicians to simply request, “Build a GAD-7 anxiety questionnaire,” and the system handles everything from research and mapping to data types and calculations. Clinicians can even make design tweaks through natural language commands. This isn’t just about speed. It’s about empowering clinical analysts to focus on care rather than tedious tasks.
AI-powered data capture
Paper forms remain common in many clinics, but manual data entry is inefficient and prone to error. Imagine snapping a photo of a completed PHQ-9 form and having AI instantly populate the digital record. We’ve built solutions that do exactly that. Beyond automation, AI can engage patients directly by conducting questionnaires conversationally, correcting mistakes in real time to ensure data accuracy. By putting this capability in clinicians’ hands, we are helping drive deeper patient trust while improving overall care quality.

Breaking down barriers across diverse communities
Language differences shouldn’t stand between patients and care. AI-powered medical translation tools act as a real-time interpreter, enabling clinicians to communicate seamlessly with patients in multiple languages. This innovation expands access and fosters equity in healthcare, ensuring that no patient feels isolated due to language constraints.
Looking ahead: Chronic care management
Chronic care management has been a recurring theme in healthcare for decades, but AI offers a new way forward. By leveraging AI to apply vetted, clinician-approved care guidelines consistently, we can close care gaps and improve outcomes for patients with complex conditions. This isn’t about replacing physicians—it’s about giving them intelligent support to efficiently and effectively manage intricate care plans.
The journey ahead
AI in healthcare isn’t just about saving time. It’s about improving data quality, enhancing patient engagement, and creating a more equitable system. At TouchWorks, we’re committed to exploring these innovations and sharing what’s next.
