Meet the new VP of Ventus: A conversation about what’s next for revenue cycle management
Recently, I had a chance to sit down with Ventus’ new Executive Vice President, Sean Sykes. With his years at Harris and a fresh perspective on revenue cycle management, I had a great conversation exploring the future of RCM tools, the value of an open ecosystem, Ventus’ core message to the market and the exciting vision shaping the next chapter. Here’s what he had to say.
Can you briefly describe your professional background and how it led you to your new role as EVP of Ventus?
SS: I’ve been with Harris for seven years, primarily in critical infrastructure with a focus on utility billing. You might think utilities and healthcare are worlds apart, but I started to see some striking parallels.
Utility billing (electric, water and gas) is a primary revenue generating program for cities, providing essential funding to sustain critical city operations, infrastructure and public services. The challenge is the same: generate accurate bills, make them easy to understand and make it simple for people to pay. That’s exactly what hospitals need to do with their revenue cycle.
When the opportunity to lead Ventus came along, the decision was easy.
What differentiates Ventus within the healthcare revenue cycle industry?
SS: It’s our approach to the market. We’re a revenue cycle management platform that integrates with multiple EHRs, not just one. That flexibility matters. And what I love most about Ventus is that our team thinks exclusively about revenue cycle for our clients. We’re not just a clinical system vendor where RCM is an afterthought.
We’re a best-of-breed, open ecosystem that truly gives our partners freedom of choice.

What key message do you want the market to understand about Ventus?
SS: We’re a trusted partner. Our applications have been in the market for over 30 years, and that reliability isn’t something you can shortcut.
We’re also an open ecosystem. As AI becomes more prevalent, the ability to seamlessly integrate with other systems is critical. And for health systems looking to streamline their vendor relationships, we offer a full range of solutions, not just core RCM, but intelligent coding, contract analysis, contract management and EMPI as well. As AI accelerates innovation and regulatory requirements grow more complex, it’s going to be essential that hospital systems work with a dedicated partner singularly focused on reducing denials, generating accurate bills and creating clarity for patients.
Looking ahead, what excites you most about Ventus’s future?
SS: Two things. First, the industry trend toward best-of-breed solutions. Some organizations think a single turnkey system will be easier, but in reality, open, specialized systems will deliver better results in todays integrated AI environments.
Second, we’re in the middle of modernizing our core platform. We’re bringing modern technology and AI capabilities to market and I’m genuinely excited about what that will mean for our partners in 2027 and beyond.
